Rumors and Notes: Maple Leafs, and the Devils

  • Tom Gulitti of The Record: Jacques Lemaire could be re-uniting with Lou Lamoriello in Toronto. The soon to be 70-year old said that he’s spoken with a couple teams about potential jobs. Lemaire hasn’t spoken with the Devils.

“I don’t know what’s going on, yet,” Lemaire said today. “I haven’t had the chance to talk to the new people (with the Devils). I’m waiting for a call.”

  • L.A. Lariviere: Lemaire wouldn’t be going back behind the bench, but as a consultant or assignment coach.
  • Rich Chere of NJ.com: Devils GM Ray Shero said it would be a long-shot, as well as risky, for Ryane Clowe to attempt to play again.

“The last time he played was, what, Nov. 6? That’s been a long time,” Shero told NJ Advance Media. “Training camp is next month, so at some point, in terms of how he is feeling, a determination has to be made by him and doctors as to what direction he can or cannot go.”

He has three year and $14.55 million left on his contract. Bryce Salvador remains a UFA and is unsure on his playing future.

“With Bryce Salvador, he can make that determination as to how he’s feeling,” Shero pointed out. “He obviously missed a lot of time last year and with his age, we’ll see what the future holds for him. There will be another conversation in maybe the next week or so with Bryce.”

  • Rich Chere of NJ.com: After Martin Brodeur’s playing career ended last year, he wanted to join the Devils front office, but wasn’t offered a suitable position with the team when Lou Lamoriello was there.

“There’s nothing bad that happened with the Devils, at least from my side of things anyway,” Brodeur was quoted. “With all the new faces over there, for me to walk into the arena in New Jersey now would be like walking into any team’s arena for me because everyone is gone.

“It would be as if I was joining Pittsburgh instead.”
