Craig Custance: Oilers GM Craig MacTavish said there is zero chance that he will entertain trade offers for the first overall pick.
Darren Dregers TSN: Landing the first overall pick now gives the Oilers an opportunity to go after a goalie or a top three defenseman. They could look at moving Leon Draisaitl. They also own the Penguins first round pick this year. Landing McDavid should also help them sign free agents.
David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Staple thinks that it’s not a given that the Oilers look to move Leon Draisaitl. He may not be an overly aggressive player, but he’s big, can protect the puck and wins battles on the boards. He is a good candidate to break in as a winger now. They can use his size and skill in the top six. The Oilers could look to trade for another big, tough winger to play on the third line. They still need to find a true No. 1 defenseman, and will consider moving a top young player not named McDavid or Nugent-Hopkins. Could look to fill defensive holes through free agency. It might be best for Darnell Nurse to start the season in the AHL. The Oilers need a goalie and might be able to get one in free agency. Top priority should be a No. 1 defenseman and likely another veteran defenseman.
