Rumors and Videos: Bruins with a little Maple Leafs and Oilers

  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Mike Giardi thinks that if the Bruins traded Zdeno Chara, it would leave a big hole in their blueline. Joe Haggerty looks at the assets that trading Chara would bring the Bruins. Haggerty also suggests that Chara may know his time with the Bruins and offers this conspiracy theory:

“Why would a guy all of a sudden get his real-estate license to start selling property and to start looking into that on his own if he wasn’t starting to get unsure about his place within the Boston area?” asked Haggerty. “Maybe he thinks they’re going to start to talk about moving him as well. Maybe that makes him a little easier to convince to move his no-move clause because Peter is gone and the environment has changed around the team.”

  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: The Bruins will be looking to add players with more offensive skill. There is a good chance that the Oilers could make Jordan Eberle or Taylor Hall available this summer. The Oilers have liked Milan Lucic’s game for a while and they could use his size and toughness in their top-six. Trading Lucic for Eberle or Hall is something Bruins would have to consider. There are also indications that the Bruins and Maple Leafs have kept the door open with regards to Joffrey Lupul trade talk. The Bruins kicked tires on Lupul before the trade deadline. The Leafs would have to retain half of Lupul’s salary due to the Bruins salary cap position.
  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Mike Giardi would consider holding onto Milan Lucic and hope for an angry Lucic as he enters the final year of his contract. Joe Haggerty would look to see what the Bruins could get for Lucic.

“I think they have to look at trading Lucic for the very fact that he would net them the most of pretty much anything they have as far as tradable assets,” said Haggerty. “Say you have to trade Milan Lucic and Malcolm Subban to get Taylor Hall, I would do that all day because I think you’re upgrading at the left wing position over Milan Lucic while still getting a player that will play a little bit in the Bruins style.”
