On the Avalanche …
- Elliotte Friedman on Saturday night: Joe Sakic and the Avalanche usually keep things close to their chest, so a lot of people were surprised when they hinted that change would be coming and that Matt Duchene’s name came up. Some think that Sakic was trying to light a fire under his team before their road trip. The Avs are a budget team, and they have two big contracts that they are going to have deal with – Nathan MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie. Barrie is arbitration eligible, and if they go to arbitration, it would be a big number. If Duchene does get traded, many think it would be for a stud defenseman or it’s because they feel they can’t keep all these contracts.
- Joe Pack of Sportsnet: Five possible trade destinations for Matt Duchene: Montreal, Ottawa, Columbus, Nashville and New Jersey.
On the Blue Jackets …
- Michael Russo of the Star Tribune: Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen has been trying hard to trade for a defenseman and he’s been shopping Cam Atkinson and Kerby Rychel hard.
On the Red Wings …
- Alex Prewitt: The Red Wings contacted the Capitals in the summer of 2014 about Mike Green’s availability after they signed free agents Brooks Orpik and Matt Niskanen.
On the Maple Leafs …
- Howard Berger of Between the Posts: Berger thinks the Maple Leafs should trade Jonathan Bernier. His trade value isn’t high, and it “will only plummet the longer he remains in a Toronto uniform.”
- Craig Button on TSN: Button thinks the Maple Leafs made a mistake by giving Bernier a two year deal.
On the Flyers …
- Randy Miller: Can see the Flyers making a trade soon, and guessing that Matt Read would be the first to be traded.
- Eklund of Hockey Buzz: Flyers Braydon Schenn’s name is the rumor mill, with the Jets, Avalanche and Blue Jackets are possible destinations. Teams have been heavily scouting Schenn.
