Rumors: Brodeur, Avs, Bobrovsky and Some Teams That Could Make a Move

  • Renaud Lavoie: Martin Brodeur isn’t ready to announce his retirement this month. He doesn’t want to close any doors just yet.
  • Adrian Dater of the Denver: Dater doesn’t get the impression that Joe Sakic is burning up the phone lines to make a deal, despite some rumors that might be out there. Same can be said for Patrick Roy.
  • Aaron Portzline: Reported in August or September that the Blue Jackets and Sergei Bobrovsky exchanged contract numbers, but talks went nowhere and were tabled. Got the sense that Bobrovsky wants to be paid like a top goalie and the Blue Jackets weren’t ready for that just yet. He wants to prove it this season.
  • Allan Muir of SI: (roundtable with Sarah Kwak and Brian Cazeneuve) Cazeneuve wonders if the Capitals move Mike Green, would the Jets and Canadiens be interested? Teams like the Hurricanes, Avalanche, Leafs, Capitals or Flyers could be looking to make a move. Muir thinks the Leafs could be an interesting team to watch with regards to trade talk and the use of #fancystats. Can some of the new guys convince GM Dave Nonis to target a ‘stats’ related player. Kwak thinks the OLilers and Coyotes could be look for help. Muir thinks the Coyotes could be looking at a fire sale over an upgrade. Antoine Vermette is in the rumor mill. The Oilers could look to do something, but Muir would be surprised if they moved Jordan Eberle. Muir could see the Blue Jackets trying to do something. The Avs could use an upgrade to their blueline. The Flyers and Rangers could be looking to do something, and the Stars may not be finished.
  • Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger on TSN 1290 on trade talks.

“No, you know, relatively quiet. But perhaps that picks up as teams creep up to the 20-game mark in regular season play. I think that you’ve got your usual standard of tire-kicking from teams around the league and we look for hot spots, don’t we?

“You look at Colorado, and things are messy there right now for the Avalanche. And you’ve got to wonder how long will it be before Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic find a way to shake things up there. You know, is Ryan O’Reilly or who is the likely target? What do you need in return?

“So there’s that kind of media dialog, but based on the managers that I talked to this week, it’s still relatively quiet in spite of what went on yesterday in Montreal and Dallas.”

  • Hope Smoke: Ray Ferraro on Mike Richards: “Nowhere in last 3 years has he shown me play/production equates to contract that comes with him. Not interested” … “Kings gave him out a get out of jail free card. Were going to buy him out, but told him they wanted him to get into better shape” … “He’s never been a big workout guy in the summer” … ” Have to get into better shape & work harder & here we are 15 games into the season & they have cap issues” … “That’s the contract you look at first. If he was producing they would look somewhere else.” … “Fact of the matter is he just doesn’t seem to produce offense”
