On the Bruins …
- Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: (mailbag) Bruins defenseman Joe Morrow hasn’t shown a lot so far this season. He would have to clear waivers if they wanted to send him to Providence. There might be a time when the Bruins risk it and try to get him through waivers.
- If the Bruins got off to strong start, they might have looked at trade or two to address their deficiencies.
- Since they haven’t got off to a strong start, this is where the names of some of their veterans has come into play. When writing the previous report that involved Zdeno Chara, Brad Marchand, etc., mentioned that it’s something that wouldn’t happen anytime soon and that those players weren’t “being shopped” or “on the trade block.” Those names could be options for the Bruins if they continue to struggle.
- There was some trade talk last Christmas involving Loui Eriksson and then Blues forward T.J. Oshie. Sense was that the Blues wanted Milan Lucic over Oshie. Eriksson could be moved, but he is also someone they could sign to an extension if they could get him at the right price, possibly in the $4 to $5 million range.
On the Flyers …
- Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Despite moving between the Flyers second and third lines, and playing under nine minutes in a game against the Panthers last week, Wayne Simmonds and his under $4 million cap hit through 2019 is not someone GM Ron Hextall would be quick to move even though they’d like to shed some salary.
On the Blue Jackets …
- Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch: The Blue Jackets are off to a 0-6 start, head coach Todd Richards is “walking a fine line” and a roster shakeup is a “very real possibility.” Before yesterday’s game, GM Jarmo Kekelainen wouldn’t “speculate” on the future of any of his players or his coach.
