On the Chicago Blackhawks …
- Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago: Bryan Bickell cleared waivers for the second time this year and was assigned to Rockford. Coach Joel Quenneville on if Bickell could be back with the team
“I don’t want to deny him an opportunity to come back here and help us,” he said.
Bickell’s agent, Todd Diamond, on if Bickell’s days with the Blackhawks is over: “it is a possibility” that he gets a fresh start with someone else.
“Stan is good to his players and if there is a better opportunity I am sure he will bring it to us,” Diamond said. “Trades these days are many times financially driven and that can take time. We will see how things develop this week.”
On the Washington Capitals …
- Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 on if the Washington Capitals will be all in at the deadline.
“They should be. They’re one of the best teams in the league. You see how well they’re playing right now. This is a year where you gamble. You take your shot. And I don’t think anybody could fault the Washington Capitals for doing it.
“I reported a few weeks ago that if Orpik had been out they might have taken a run at Byfuglien. I still think it’s possible, depending on what happens with Byfuglien in Winnipeg, that they could be a target for him.
“I think Washington is definitely in on adding. I don’t think they have a lot to add, mind you. I know they were looking for a center even before Jay Beagle got hurt. They have Mike Richards in there now. He just played his first games. I’m curious to see where that’s going to go. So I don’t know if they’re still looking for centers, depending on how Richards plays, but I do think that Washington is all in. They will be looking to add, and they should because they’re good enough.”
