- Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: (answering questions from a ‘chat’) Don’t think the Coyotes have regrets about not trade Shane Doan at the deadline. Doan holds the power with his no-trade/movement clauses and the Coyotes have been adamant that he was untouchable. Can see the Coyotes trying to take advantage of teams that need to shed some salary for next season.
- Mike Johnston of SportsNet: Doug MacLean Sportnet 590 the Fan yesterday morning on the Nazem Kadri – Maple Leafs situation.
“He’s a restricted free agent, so his negotiations will start probably in a month’s time for his next contract. He’s looking for probably a five-year deal in the $5-million-per-year range,” MacLean surmised. “It’ll be real interesting to see where those negotiations go, and is this a part of the negotiations.”
Shanahan’s comments could hurt Kadri’s trade value if they chose to go that route.
“I think he wants to be a Leaf; I think he loves being a Leaf. He’s got some issues there’s no doubt,” MacLean said. “Hopefully he learns from this and it ends and you move on, but I think he could’ve learned from it and everybody could have moved on without everybody wondering what it was.
“Let’s not forget Seguin. He was moved from the Bruins because he had some off-ice issues, and he was leading the league in scoring this year with Dallas.”
- Rory Boylen of Sportsnet: Kings GM Dean Lombardi said that Mike Richards could return to the NHL this season.
“We’re running him through some tests right now,” Lombardi said. “I mean, the one thing about Michael everybody knows, when there’s big games or critical moments, he’s always there. And we just gotta get him up to that capacity to be able to do that…
“But there’s very much a possibility he’ll be back.”
