Rumors I: Babcock and Holland Travelling … Chiarelli Talked to McLellan
  • Peter Wallner of MLive: Red Wings coach Mike Babcock and GM Ken Holland drove together from Detroit to Grand Rapids yesterday to watch the Griffens-Marlies game. Holland:

“We talked a little bit,” he said. “Lots about this team (Griffins) and about Detroit, and we’ll talk again in the next few days.”

    Babcock:

“Don’t read anything into anything right now. Ken and I had a good conversation and we’ll continue to do that.

“Like I said, we’re driving back together and we have players’ meetings tomorrow and this week, and I plan to go to Worlds to watch (Dylan) Larkin here coming up. So business as usual and we’ll see where everything plays.

“But I’m here watching because that’s my job.”

  • George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press: Red Wings Stephen Weiss has three year left at $4.9 million per season and he isn’t sure what his future is with the Wings. He played only 26 games in 2013-14 and manged 25 points in 52 games this past season. He was scratched for five of seven playoff games. On what he thought his role might be next year with the Wings, Weiss said:

“After the way things ended this year? No, not really.

“I gotta earn a spot, there’s no doubt about it. Similar as last season, I knew the same thing coming into this year. I was going to have to earn a spot, and I feel the same way next year.”

  • Winging It In Motown: Mike Babcock and Ken Holland are both going to Prague to watch Dylan Larkin. Holland said that he’ll meet with Larkin and will be talking with him about what do for next year.
  • Terry Jones: Don’t know if Babcock is heading to Prague or not, but the suggestion that he’d talk to Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli is false. Chiarelli has already left.
  • Terry Jones: Chiarelli as talked to Todd McLellan. He’s now headed to Arizona for their scouting meetings.
