- Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Peter Chiarelli and Claude Julien could pay the price for the Bruins missing the playoffs. The Bruins need to sign Dougie Hamilton to a contract extension, which could start around $4 million a season. Ryan Spooner and Brett Connolly will be re-signed. They could trade Milan Lucic who has a year left on his deal. They have depth on the wing, so Reilly Smith or Loui Eriksson are trade possibilities. Bruins pending UFAs: Gregory Campbell, Niklas Svedberg, Daniel Paille, Carl Soderberg, Adam McQuaid, and Matt Bartkowski. They need to fill their holes with speed, quickness and skill.
“I consider it a failure,” Chiarelli said Friday. “It’s a failure on everybody’s part. But being a failure doesn’t mean there has to be a complete overhaul of everything. Guys fail. Teams fail. They get back on their horse. I consider it a failure. But you don’t always succeed in this business. You don’t always hit the ball out of the park all the time. You’ve got to get back and do your job, and we’ve shown we can do that. But right now, it’s pretty disappointing.”
- Joe McDonald of ESPN: The Bruins roster should have been good enough to win, and shouldn’t necessarily fall on GM Peter Chiarelli or Claude Julien. They will make trades. Carl Soderberg, Adam McQuaid, Daniel Paille, Gregory Campbell and Matt Bartkowski likely won’t be back next season. Milan Lucic could be on the trade block.
- Jeremy Rutherford of St. Louis Post Dispatch: (mailbag) On if Blues Brian Elliott would ask for a trade this offseason if he doesn’t start in the playoffs – unlikely as he surely knew that Jake Allen would take over as starting goalie at some point when he signed his three year contract extension. He has two years left.Vladimir Sobotka could return to the Blues next season, but could also see them trading him, possibly at the draft.
- Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: (mailbag) The Stars will have to decide if they want to bring Alex Goligoski and Trevor Daley back. Either or both could be moved, with Daley probably having the most value due to his contract. This would also depend on which big named defenseman is available this offseason.Ales Hemsky’s contract could be hard to move, so he should be back next year. Moving him at the deadline could be an option if he’s not fitting in, but that is a long way off.
Don’t see Colton Sceviour being traded.
