Rumors I: Bruins, Blues, Oilers, Habs, Leafs, Islanders and Wings

  • Pierre LeBrun: The Bruins may be interested in a Blues forward, but it’s unknown if anything would happen.
  • Jimmy Murphy: Multiple source saying that the Canadiens are among the teams that have inquired about Oilers Jordan Eberle. If the Canadiens really are interested in Eberle, they would have to give up roster players, both a forward and a defenseman, to get it done. The Oilers are not just going to be looking to get prospects and picks back. Murphy thinks the Bruins would be a better fit with the Oilers than the Canadiens.
  • Jonathan Willis: Willis thinks that a deal that is built around Jordan Eberle for Loui Eriksson plus could make sense.
  • David Pagnotta: The Oilers are talking trade in a position of weakness. Players like Eberle, David Perron and Teddy Purcell are in play, but teams are trying to steal them. GM Craig MacTavish will continue to work the phones. If he finds something that makes sense, they could make a deal.
  • Hope Smoke: Nick Kypreos: “In a perfect world the Blues want to go with Allen/Brodeur & move Elliot. There is a market for Brian Elliot”
  • Griffin Reinhart: (responding to rumor that he asked for a trade) “To clarify for all you asking… It’s not true.”
  • Arthur Staple: Islanders GM Garth Snow said that Griffin Reinhart didn’t request a trade.
  • Arthur Staple: Reinhart’s agent said he has no knowledge of his client’s request.
  • Justin Cuthbert of theScore: Maple Leafs pending UFA defenseman Cody Franson on Sportsnet 590 The Fan.

“This is obviously where I want to be. But first and foremost, we will worry about being a more consistent team and a winning team,” Franson told Sportsnet 590 The Fan. “When the team does well, individuals tend to find success within that and that’s the way I am approaching it.”

  • Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The Red Wings had all his pro scouts in town for a meeting this past week.

“Just thought it would be good to touch base now,” Holland said, “instead of waiting till late January.”

“It’s an opportunity for us to talk about if a player fits, and the cost,” Holland said. “I don’t know if I’m going to make a trade or not. Historically, trades happen closer to the trade deadline. Right now, you just watch your team every day, and so far, lots of good has been going on, and hopefully it continues.”

Capitals Mike Green could be the most viable option. He’d be cheaper to trade for than the Sabres Tyler Myers, where the asking price would start with Anthony Mantha or Gustav Nyquist, plus more players and picks.
