Rumors I: Coyotes, Jets, Bruins, Leafs, Pens, Flyers and more

  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Contract talks between Antoine Vermette and the Coyotes have been put on hold. Vermette hasn’t given up hope that he’ll re-sign, it could be up to new Coyotes owner Andrew Barroway. He’ll be moved if they don’t re-sign him.

“I love it here. I try to go day by day and put that aside. It’s out of my control and I can help the team wins” Vermette said Friday.

“(The sale) is good news, it brings stability and it’s something that we’ve been hearing for quite bit. Hopefully, it’s going to translate into something good. Management needs to talk with the ownership to get more clarity in that regards. That’s about it.”

The Jets are looking to move a defenseman or two. They won’t be moving Dustin Byfuglien. Teams can likely have Adam Pardy.

There would be plenty of interest in Phil Kessel if the Leafs decided to move him. Some league executives think the Leafs will move Kessel or Dion Phaneuf this offseason.

If the Oilers are going to trade Jordan Eberle, it’s doubtful to happen during the season.

The Penguins may be looking to add another forward.

The Canadiens are looking to add a forward, someone with some size. They hope someone will take Bryan Allen who is in the AHL.

The Avs wouldn’t want more than a draft pick for Daniel Briere. The Islanders could use a guy like Briere.

Jeff Petry could be a good fit for the Red Wings, who are looking for a right-handed shooting defenseman.

Flyers GM Ron Hextall is getting antsy. Coach Craig Berube is on the hot seat and the Flyers wouldn’t mind moving out some money. They’d like to move out Nick Schultz, Carlo Colaiacovo and Michael Del Zotto. Teams are calling about Braydon Coburn and Brayden Schenn.

Reports that the Wild talked to the Hurricanes about Cam Ward. Thought is that he’d waive his no-trade clause for a chance to play for a good team. The Hurricanes have had contract talks with Andrej Sekera and Jiri Tlusty, but they’ll be moved if a deal can’t be reached.

The Blackhawks are looking to move a defenseman, possibly pending UFA Michal Rozsival.

The Canucks are looking to move Zack Kassian.

The Ducks could be looking to move Mark Fistric.

  • Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Every organization would love a player like Kessel who scores 30 goals a season. To get Keith Yandle, the Bruins would have to trade Torey Krug, maybe another young roster player, a draft pick and a prospect. The Bruins would also have to move out some salary, which isn’t easy. The Wild need some help between the pipes. Antti Niemi would be one candidate, and the price wouldn’t be high.
