- Adam Vingan of the Tennessean: Matt Cullen remains unsigned, but is hoping to play again next season.
“I’m excited about the idea of playing again,” Cullen said during a phone interview Monday. “I’m leaning a lot more that way. Now that doesn’t necessarily mean that I’ll be somewhere, because I am 38 and teams see that number and it’s a big number, so I understand that side of it. … Bottom line is that I just still really love to play the game, and the fact that I’m excited about another season is a good thing.”
Cullen knew he had to be patient when free agency opened. Teams have called and said they’d circle back once they’ve handled other roster priorities.
“The last little bit, it’s kind of picked up a little bit, and there’s a few teams now that have expressed some interest,” Cullen said. “We’re just going through where I would fit salary cap wise and things like that. … It’s been good. I’ve been thrilled with the fact that there’s been a few teams looking to hopefully make a move here.”
- Craig Morgan of FOX Sports Arizona: Sean Burke is still deciding on his future, and expects to make a decision soon. He was reportedly in talks with the Maple Leafs and Sharks at one point. There has been some speculation tying him to former Coyotes assistant GM, and current Flames GM Brad Treliving.
“The role I would be taking on is something I really would enjoy,” Burke said Wednesday. “There’s not a lot of questions left about it. It’s just a matter of getting it ironed out. If it is the right fit it will probably happen in the next week.”
He chose not to return to the Coyotes in hopes of getting a bigger management role.
The Coyotes would still like to add a right-handed defenseman to play with Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Coyotes thought they had traded for one in a draft-day deal – then Bruins Dougie Hamilton.
The Coyotes would also like to bring in another winger. Free agent options could be Sean Bergenheim, Brad Boyes, Eric Fehr, Mike Santorelli, Alex Semin and Jiri Tlusty. Source is saying that they are looking to sign someone in the $2 million to $3 million range.
- Igor Eronko: Sharks RFA Daniil Tarasov is in talks with KHLs Moscow Dynamo according to @GazetaBOsport.
