- Jeff Simmons of Sportsnet: Five teams that need to make an impactful trade at the deadline1. Ducks – Need to upgrade their blueline. Dion Phaneuf, Jeff Petry and Zbynek Michalek.
2. Bruins – Only two points up on Florida for the final wild card spot, and have David Krejci on the LTIR. Wouldn’t give up their first for Antoine Vermette. Have been linked to Joffrey Lupul and Chris Stewart. (article posted before Connolly trade)
3. Flames – May ride out current roster, but Mark Giordano is now on the IR. Need to see what the defenseman market is like.
4. Blues – could use another veteran. Could use some blueline depth with Kevin Shattenkirk out for a while. Elliotte Friedman linked them too Jeff Petry.
5. Canucks – could use someone with a playoff track record. Could use a right-handed defenseman and an experienced center.
- TSN: Trade Bait: 1. Jeff Petry 2. Zbynek Michalek 3. Chris Stewart 4. Dion Phaneuf 5. Joffrey Lupul 6. Jan Hejda 7. Marek Zidlicky 8. Cam Atkinson 9. Tyler Bozak 10. Matt Beleskey.
- Craig Custance: One executive on the trade market so far: “I think some of the prices that have been paid, for the players who have been acquired, are insane.”
- Brian Lawton: “Several teams talking about the market starting to really slow down…….. Let the musical chairs begin. Who gets caught with out chair?”
- Nicholas Goss: “Another reason why giving up prospects for rentals isn’t ideal in most cases: Bruins are tight against cap and need cheap, young players.”
- Alex Prewitt: After adding Curtis Glencross, the Capitals are right at the ceiling, about $500 below. Any other trades would have to be player-for-player.
- Matt Sitkoff: Trade Deadline activity since 1979-80.
