Rumors I: Flyers, Blues, and Stars

  • Sam Carchid: The Flyers have opened up contract extension talks with Jakub Voracek. It will probably take at least $7 million per season.
  • Jeremy Rutherford: Blues GM Doug Armstrong said that the KHL option for Vladimir Tarasenko was more worrisome than an offer sheet. Armstrong said that Tarasenko never played the KHL card.
  • Joe Strauss of St. Louis Post Disptach: It’s likely that GM Doug Armstrong would like to  find a new home for Patrik Berglund. He holds a limited no-trade clause and carries a $3.7 million cap hit for another two years, so he’s an immovable object. Steve Ott will make 2.6 million on the fourth line. Jay Bouwmeester is owed $22 million over the next four years. GM Armstrong:

“I don’t know if people expected 12 new forwards and six new defensemen … then they’re going to be disappointed,” Armstrong told Post-Dispatch hockey scribe Jeremy Rutherford. “But there certainly has been some change and there’s certainly going to be some change that will come with responsibilities also.”

  • Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: When asked about Kevin Shattenkirk – if he’d a fit with the Stars, and if the Blues would trade within their division. The Blues are saying he’s not on the market. If the Stars were to make the best offer, some say you never trade that type of player within the division, some say maybe. It depends on the GM. It would cost a ton to get someone like Shattenkirk, but the Stars have lots of assets.Heika notes it would have been interesting to see what they would have offered if defenseman Dougie Hamilton was made available to them.

Trade talk is a little slow right now. GMs are assessing their recent moves and signings.
