Rumors I: Hagelin, Flyers, Paajarvi, Kopitar, Oduya, Semin and Moore

  • Eric Stephens of the OC Register: Ducks GM Bob Murray has already been talking with the agent for newly acquired Carl Hagelin, and they are making progress on a new contract.

“We are making progress,” Barry said in an e-mail to the Register. “Will keep talking to see whether the arbitration filing is necessary or not.”

The Ducks sent Hagelin a qualifying offer already, and he can file for arbitration. Hagelin made $2.4 million last year and could be looking for something around $3.5 million. Hagelin said on the day he was traded, his agent told him there were very little talks with the Rangers about an extension.

“Maybe the Rangers saw all the guys that’s signed and what they’ve signed for and maybe they weren’t able to keep me,” Hagelin said. “I’m hoping to get a deal done soon here with Anaheim. I’m happy that Anaheim traded for me.”

  • Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: The Flyers have about $4.5 million in cap space remaining, with RFA Michael Del Zotto still needing a new contract. They have made a qualifying offer, but they are talking about a multi-year contract. GM Ron Hextall said that signing a big name free agent this year “would be crazy, but next summer might even be more crazy because we might have to move one of our good young players just to get under” the cap. On where the sit at the moment.

“I’m comfortable with our team right now,” he said. “If we can upgrade it somehow, we’ll look to do it, but we can’t be going out and spending a whole bunch of money to upgrade it, otherwise we’ll be back in the situation we’re in.”

The Flyers will start contract extension talks with Jakub Voracek’s agent soon.

  • David Pagnotta: Magnus Paajarvi would like to remain with the Blues and in the NHL, but there is a chance that he heads over to Sweden if a one-year deal isn’t reached. He is a restricted free agent, and there is a chance they could trade him.
  • David Pagnotta: Contract talks between Anze Kopitar and the Kings haven’t picked up. They will still down later this month as there is no rush.
  • Kevin Paul Dupont: Johnny Oduya could be target for the Bruins.
  • Mike Vogl: Sounding like Alexander Semin wants to remain in the NHL and not to head over the KHL. There is a zero percent chance he returns to the Capitals.
  • Rich Chere: John Moore said the reason the Coyotes didn’t keep him was that they were worried about a big salary arbitration award.
