- Will: Bob McKenzie on TSN 690 on Nazem Kadri and Jake Gardiner trade rumors: “I don’t think the Leafs would rule out anybody right now outside of Kessel.”
- Dennis Bernstein: (answering question) Can see Slava Voynov being traded after is domestic violence case is over.
- Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on Sportnet 960 on Eric Staal.
“Eric Staal said to me that he met with Ron Francis in the summer and talked about his future and they basically asked him, ‘Do you want to go?’ And he said, ‘No, I don’t. I want to stay. I want to be a member of the Hurricanes.’
On Andrej Sekera and Cam Ward.
“I think you’ll see a guy like Sekera will get traded. He’s an unrestricted free agent and I think he’s got some value. I think they’d love to trade Cam Ward, but I’m not sure you can make that work. But Eric Staal sure made it sound like he is not going anywhere in the short-term.”
On Jeff Skinner.
“I do think they would move Skinner under the right circumstances, but I don’t think that’s an easy trade either.”
- Nichols on Hockey: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1260 on talk of the Oilers making a coaching change with Mark Messier’s name coming up.
“I think at some point Mark Messier probably wants to coach in the National Hockey League. I think he’s indicated to people that might be something he’d have some interest in. Whether or not it would have to be in New York, as opposed to back in Edmonton – I don’t have any specific knowledge that the Edmonton Oilers were contemplating a change with Dallas Eakins. I think Craig MacTavish has been notably supportive of Dallas Eakins through some pretty tough times, and yet we also knew that this homestand was going to be crucial and that if the Edmonton Oilers had continued to lose games at the rate they were losing, which was close to 100 percent in the first five of the season – if they’d done that on this homestand, all bets were probably off in terms of the pressure mounting to such a level that something would have to give. But fortunately for the Oilers, for Craig MacTavish, for Dallas Eakins, they strung together some wins here and the picture today as opposed to a week ago is much rosier.”
