- Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: Bruins prospect Zane McIntrye will be leaving the University of North Dakota and could be signing with the Bruins soon. Contract talks were expected to start yesterday according to his agent Neil Sheehy. McIntrye could choose not sign with the Bruins and become a free agent 30 days after withdrawing from school. He hasn’t officially withdrawn yet. McIntrye did say last month that if he left school, he would sign with the Bruins.
“That is the plan,” he said. “I have no reason to believe that we wouldn’t be able to come to an agreement. The Bruins have shown a strong interest in Zane, and Zane would like to sign with them. So hopefully everything falls into place and it gets done.”
- Aaron Portzline: Hearing that the Blackhawks are the preferred destination for Blue Jackets prospect Mike Reilly.
- Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Rich Peverley’s agent told Bob McKenzie yesterday that Peverley has been visiting with doctors to see if he could play again. Peverley had a cardiac event on March 10, 2014, in the which paramedics and doctors had to revive him. He’s had ablation surgery on his heart, and if he was able to return, they would have to remove a defibrillation device that was implanted.
- Adam Vingan of the Tennessean: 38-year old Matt Cullen just completed his 17th season and will sit back and see if he wants to continue playing. He is a pending UFA after finishing his two-year, $7 million deal with the Predators.
“I’m going to take a little while, just kind of take some time and sit back,” Cullen said. “Obviously, everything happens fast at the end and disappointed in the way it all ended up, but I’ll just sit back and take a little time and be with the family and let the body settle down and calm down. I don’t really have a structure yet.”
- Joe Yerdon: The Sabres will likely try to trade their second first round pick for a either a goalie or with a player to move up in the draft.
- Jason Brough: If the Canucks want to make the playoffs next season, trading Eddie Lack and going with Jacob Markstrom could be a big risk. That is why Brough doesn’t think they will trade Lack this offseason. Stephen Whyno asks why not trade Ryan Miller and go with Lack and Markstrom? Jason Brough: Going with Lack and Markstrom would be just as, if not more risky than going Miller and Markstrom. Markstrom is a wild card – he’s like Anders Lindback.
