- Renaud Lavoie: Trade talks between the Ducks and Sabres have intensified on Tyler Myers. Other teams are still interested in Myers as well.
- Nichols on Hockey: Renaud Lavoie on WGR 550 yesterday on his Ducks-Sabres report.
“That’s interesting because yesterday I received a phone call early in the morning about Tyler Myers from somebody in the league and it was about the Ducks and it said that they’re talking a lot right now. I was surprised by the names that I was hearing. I think what the Sabres are looking at is another D in return. The name that was in was Cam Fowler, who’s a young D, obviously, with the Ducks. And another player could be involved if that trade comes up. So it’s going to be Tyler Myers for, let’s say, a defenseman like Cam Fowler and another player. Is it going to happen? I don’t know.
“But after that, later in the afternoon, another contact of mine when we were talking about the Sabres, out of the blue said, ‘Renaud, there’s a lot of talk again concerning Tyler Myers and Tim Murray is really busy on the phone concerning Myers.’
“And there was a third contact of mine later during the day who said exactly the same thing. So when you have three different persons from three different organizations who are telling me exactly the same thing, it must be true. Is it going to be a trade with the Ducks? I know the Ducks are really interested. I’m not the first one to say that. It was reported before. I know the Detroit Red Wings are in the mix for Tyler Myers.
- Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Flyers Kimmo Timonen said in the past that he continues to play in attempt to win his first Stanley Cup. When asked if he’s talked to GM Ron Hextall about the possibility of being traded before the March 2nd deadline.
“We’ll see, we’ll see. What happens, happens,” he said. “Let’s get back to that issue maybe down the road.”
If Timonen is able to return on February 21st, he would be able to play in five games before the deadline.
- Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post: If he wants, the Flyers could look at trading Timonen for a draft pick. He has a base salary of $2 million with up to $1.5 million in bonuses for games played. Teams who might be interested include: Predators, Sharks and Blackhawks.
- TSN 1040 radio: Canucks Shawn Matthias on free-agency: “I haven’t spoken to (Canucks). I’d would love to be here, I like all the guys, I really do enjoy playing here.”
- Eric Stephens of the OC Register: The Ducks are looking to sign pending UFA Matt Beleskey to a contract extension, the lines of communication are open according to Beleskey’s agent, Murray Kuntz.
“Talks are continuing, and we are hopeful that we will be able to get something done,” Kurtz told the Register. “It’s an ongoing process and I honestly can tell you that both sides want to find a solution.
“As mentioned previously, Matt’s priority is to stay in Anaheim with the Ducks. We haven’t set any deadlines, and to my knowledge neither have they. We will continue to work with the Ducks management in the hopes of keeping Matt in Anaheim for a very long time.”
