Rumors I: Oilers, Bruins, Coyotes and Capitals

  • John Shannon: Oilers GM Craig MacTavish will address the Oilers situation this morning. There won’t be any coaching changes.
  • Nick Kypreos: Strong speculation that the Oilers and Bruins are revisiting trade talk. Have been told that both teams are desperate to make some sort of change. Jordan Eberle perhaps? It wouldn’t be a surprise to Kypreos if a third team was needed to be involved in a major Bruins trade. It would give more flexibility with regards to players and to the salary cap. Joe Haggerty: (going off of Kypreos’ comments) Oilers management has coveted Bruins Milan Lucic, though Haggerty can’t see the Bruins moving him.
  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Oilers and Bruins trade talk goes back to the summer. They had discussed Johnny Boychuk. Talks also involved Chris Kelly. Others Bruins potentially discussed were Niklas Svedberg or Malcolm Subban. The Bruins may have been targeting Jordan Eberle. With the emergence of David Pastrnak, the Bruins may be okay with trading Loui Eriksson or Reilly Smith, a goalie, a defenseman and draft picks if need be to make a trade happen. The Oilers could be interested in Edmonton native Joe Morrow.
  • TSN Insider Trading: Dreger: the Oilers will undergo a full forensic analysis of their play this season. McKenzie: Coyotes GM Don Maloney has threatened to make trades, including players with limited no-trade clauses, unless they can turn their play around. No trades are imminent though. Dreger: the Capitals could be looking to make some moves, possibly Mike Green.
  • Craig Morgan: Coyotes GM Don Maloney wouldn’t comment on Bob McKenzie’s report that he threatened to trade players that have limited no-trade clauses. Maloney’s stance is that “what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room.”
  • Craig Morgan: There won’t be a vote at the BOG meetings next week on Andrew Barroway’s deal to buy 51 percent for the Coyotes. Sources saying the BOG is still expected to approve the deal. Gary Bettman:  “Transactions can take time. Still a work in progress.”
