- Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen: Changes could be coming to the Ottawa Senators soon. They could consider moving Chris Phillips and Chris Neil, and if they can’t re-sign him, Marc Methot will be traded. Nothing is imminent for them, but teams are calling.
“I’ve had a couple of calls already to see if we’re going to do certain things,” Murray said Wednesday, before the Senators played the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Canadian Tire Centre.
“The two Chrises you have to talk to,” Murray said. “They deserve that.”
“Before I’d even suggest trading either one, I think, from their length of service here, the type of people they are, what they bring to the locker room, it would be a long discussion with them.”
A team has contacted the Sens about Neil. David Legwand, along with one or two other could become available for a team looking for depth.
GM Bryan Murray continues to look for a winger to play with Bobby Ryan. Though he would love to add Ryan O’Reilly, it appears the Avs are looking elsewhere.
Murray could also be looking for a top-four defenseman if they move Methot. Murray also said he’ll be looking to acquire more draft picks.
- Bruce Garrioch: There haven’t been contract talks between the Senators and Marc Methot, but they are expected to start early next month.
- Iain MacIntryre: With Frankie Corrado’s play, Canucks GM Jim Benning said they are “not going to go out and get anybody” after defenseman Kevin Bieksa went down.
- Nick Kypreos: The Maple Leafs have started contract talks with Nazem Kadri on a long-term deal. The Leafs offering around five years and $22.5 million.
- Pierre LeBrun: Have been told that the Maple Leafs have talked to a lot of teams of late, but they haven’t been offered anything that makes sense for them at this point. Teams are trying to take advantage of the situation the Maple Leafs are in. They will make some moves before the trade deadline, but the bigger, more drastic moves will come this offseason.
