Rumors I: Sharks, Ducks and Devils
  • Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: Sharks GM Doug Wilson never asked Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau if they would waive their no-trade clauses.

“Never have, and have not done that,” Wilson said.

“Players would have to come to me,” Wilson said. “The integrity of building that type of contract with those types of players, they would have to come to me. I’ve been very transparent on where this team is at, and where it’s going. They have a clause that’s in their contract, and I at no point have ever asked either one of them.”

Wilson has indicated that his next big move would come in the offseason.

  • Mike Halford of Pro Hockey Talk: The Ducks didn’t trade pending UFA Matt Beleskey at the deadline, and the two side will continue to work on a new deal.

“We continue to work through to process,” Beleskey’s agent, Murray Kuntz, told PHT via email on Tuesday. “Matt’s priority is to remain in Anaheim for many years to come.

“Hopefully we can make that happen.”

  • Lance Pugmire of the LA Times: Beleskey could return to the lineup next week and is happy that he’s still with the Ducks. He hopes to get an extension done with Ducks before he hits the open market.

“I hope we get it done,” Beleskey said. “I want to win a Stanley Cup. And I want a long playoff run here with the Ducks. I’m sure we can work on it. This is where I want to be.”

Rich Chere of NJ.com: The Devils never approached Patrik Elias about waiving his no-trade clause.

“No. I was never asked, so I don’t know if anybody called. He (GM Lou Lamoriello) never talked to me about it.”

Elias said that he thinks Martin Havlat would have liked to be traded.

  • Jonas Siegel: Dion Phaneuf wouldn’t say if he talked to management on deadline day, saying it’s “in the past.”

  • Mark Masters: Lightning coach Jon Cooper said it may be time for teams to always have third goalie at the rink.
