Rumors II: Bruins, Flyers, Senators and Hurricanes
  • CSNNE: Kevin Paul Dupont on the Torey Krug/Reilly Smith situation with the Bruins.

“I think the inevitability here is they get signed,” said Dupont. “but it means they are going to have to move Boychuk and Marchand… You’ve got to move money off the books here.”

Michael Felger doesn’t like the idea of trading Johnny Boychuk.

“I’m expecting a Stanley Cup run, I think he’s a good number four , number five ,” said Felger. “I want Johnny Boychuk on this team for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I don’t know if I want Reilly Smith on this team.”
“I think the Bruins’ cap problems are self-imposed. Why is Loui Eriksson not tradable? Why is Brad Marchand not tradable? Peter Chiarelli has come out and said, ‘I’m not trading Brad Marchand.’ Why?”

  • Joe Haggerty: Source said yesterday that there is “absolutely nothing new” going on with regards to contract negotiations with the Bruins and Torey Krug.
  • Randy Miller of NJ.com: The 29-year old Pierre-Edouard Bellemare is expected to be the Flyers fourth line center, which likely means that Scott Laughton will start the year in the minors.
  • Bruce Garrioch: Senators owner Eugene Melnyk: “I’m prepared to spend more money if we’re competitive. We need to spend it smart.”
  • Michael Smith: Hurricanes GM Ron Francis said they looked at a couple PTO options, but nothing made sense. They want to give their young players a chance to make the team.
