Rumors II: Bruins, Penguins, Avalanche, Senators and Leafs

  • Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Bruins Carl Soderberg will get a big raise from his $1,008,333. He has priced himself out the Bruins lineup and they have a suitable replacement in Ryan Spooner.

Soderberg won’t have a lot of competition open in free agency: Antoine Vermette, Mike Ribeiro, Brad Richards and Matt Cullen. Soderberg could get a deal in the $4 million per year range.

With Soderberg leaving, it also raises a question mark with Loui Eriksson. Claude Julien doesn’t like Eriksson with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. Eriksson will be one of six right wingers for the Bruins. They would be selling low on Reilly Smith. Eriksson could land the Bruins a mobile defenseman.

  • Bob McKenzie: The Penguins are looking for top six forwards, which isn’t easy to do. With Paul Martin and Christian Ehrhoff heading to free agency, expect a young blueline.
  • Mike Chambers of the Denver Post: The Avs will have about $11 million in cap space and are looking at add at least one defenseman. At the top of the free agent list are defensemen Mike Green and Cody Franson, but with already have right handed defensmen Erik Johnson and Tyson Barrie in their top four, would it be the right fit for the Avs? Does it matter if their top four are all right handed? Patrick Roy downplayed during the season about having two right handed defensemen playing together. Chambers thinks that either Green or Franson would fit in well.
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators are sizing up the trade market. Six or seven teams have called the Sens about Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner. They will likely get more for Lehner. Murray hopes to get a player that has the potential to be a top six forward and a high draft pick.

The Blues and Sharks have kicked tires on Anderson.

It’s believed that the Rangers have had talks with more than one team about Cam Talbot.

Would assume that the Sabres and Oilers have looked into Talbot.

The Canucks may be willing to move Eddie Lack.

  • Brendan Shanahan on the Leafs preparing for the draft, their vacant GM position and that teams will call the Leafs about a bunch of players and not just Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf.
