- Tom Gulitti: If the Devils are going to consider giving up a significant asset, they are going to want a player who is “a certain age” who fits with the team now as well as two-three years from now.
- Dennis Bernsten: The Blues are still looking to move Patrik Berglund.
- David Pagnotta: Depending on who you talk too, some think the Leafs will move Tyler Bozak next, while some thinks he’ll be around for the beginning of the season.
- Darren Dreger: The Blues are saying that Kevin Shattenkirk is not going to be traded and is not in play.
- David Staple of the Edmonton Journal: Bob Stauffer after the Oilers signed Andrej Sekera.
“They’ve got to find out a way to move out another contract,” Stauffer added on Oilers Now. “At this time yesterday the only way I saw the Oilers getting (UFA d-man Andrej) Sekera is if they moved out a contract.”
Stauffer added that it doesn’t make much sense to move Justin Schultz unless they can get another puck-moving defenseman in return. Mark Fayne would get some interest, but they shouldn’t move him. The same goes for Andrew Ference.
They could trade Nikita Nikitin if they retain some salary.
- Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: The Stars have been pretty quiet so far.
“We like what we have and we want to keep moving in that direction,” said general manager Jim Nill. “We’re still open to trades or making changes, but we also want to make sure we stay consistent and build from within.”
- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators are believed to have talked to the Canucks about Kevin Bieksa before he was dealt to the Ducks. Bieksa had a no-trade clause so he could have nixed the deal. The Blues were also thought to show interest in Bieksa.
