- Chip Alexander of the Charlotte Observer: Hurricanes coach Bill Peters.
“We’re not going to get bigger overnight but that’s definitely an objective of ours, to get bigger.”
Hurricanes GM Ron Francis continues to look for ways to improve his team.
“It’s been an interesting process,” he said. “It’s a lot harder in today’s environment to do certain things … when you try to match up money and everything else. I’ve had a lot of conversations and probably will continue to have conversations, but there’s nothing imminent.”
- Harvey Fialkov of the Sun-Sentinel: A source is saying the Panthers are looking to trade some veterans to make room for youngsters like Vincent Trocheck, Rocco Grimaldi and maybe Quinton Howden. Tomas Fleischmann would be one players they could be looking to move. They are also thought to be looking to move Sean Bergenheim and Tomas Kopecky. All three are in the final year of their contracts. It might take until closer to the trade deadline before they are able to move them as other teams needs will be more well known.
- Mike Chambers of the Denver Post: The Avalanche have put defenseman Ryan Wilson on the LTIR. The Avalanche could use the added cap space later on in the season to acquire a $3-$4 million defenseman.
“For a trade, Joe will have to (talk) about that but on my side right now I’m comfortable with the six D,” Roy told me this morning. “Stuart is day-to-day — I thought he would be close to back right now but unfortunately his injury is taking a little more time than expected — but right now our D is playing well. We’re very happy.”
- Adrian Dater: (on the Avs) “Please stop asking about Martin Brodeur. There is zero chance, zero, zip, zilch, nada, that the Avs sign him. He’s 100 years old”
- Bob McKenzie: There is lots of interest in Kings Jordan Nolan, especially from teams in the Eastern Conference.
- Hope Smoke: Eric Francis on the Fan 590: “Stl has so many centremen on their roster. Lehtera has allowed them to maybe move Berglund who is currently on the wing” … “I could see Eberle going in a package deal. Eberle is way too good to be moved straight up for Berglund”
