- Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: The Jets currently hold the two first round draft picks, 17th and 25th. Wiebe wonders if the Jets will look to package both those picks to move up. It’s possible, but unlikely. Those two picks may not even get you into the top-10. If the Jets were to get into the top-10, they would likely have to include a player and one of the picks, possibly both. If they keep both picks, there is the theory going around that they may go safe with their first pick, and select a player that may be more of risk but with a high ceiling with their second first round pick.
- Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: There were trade rumors surrounding Dennis Seidenberg last season. With a new GM coming in, Seidenberg is hoping stick around. He is entering the second year of a four year deal, and has a no-trade clause .
“You look at St. Louis and they haven’t made the second or third round in the last few years and haven’t made any changes, but you don’t know what’s going to happen. Some organizations are less patient than others,” said Seidenberg to CSNNE.com. “You never know. You really don’t know. You’ll just see what happens.
“I want to stay. There’s no question about it. I like it here. I like the people. I like the fans…the city.
- Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Flyers newly hired coach Dave Hakstol likes to play a speed game with the defenseman joining the attack. The current makeup of the Flyers may not have enough speed to satisfy Hakstol’s style. GM Ron Hextall will probably too to trade steady but plodding defenseman Nicklas Grossman for a draft pick.
- Rich Chere of NJ.com: Devils Travis Zajac isn’t sure how he’ll fit in with newly named GM Ray Shero.
“To be honest, I’m not sure how I’ll be affected,” Zajac told NJ Advance Media. “I think I’m a very coachable player. Whatever they expect from me or want me to do, I’ll do whatever it takes to help this team in any way. I believe in this organization.
“I don’t see the change being too much of a problem for me. But with Ray, and when we get a new head coach, we’ll sit down and see what they expect from me. I have a lot to give still and I feel like I can still help this organization and this team.”
- Dennis Bernstein: Don’t think that either of Justin Williams and Jarret Stoll return to the Kings next season.
