Rumors II: Kane, Phaneuf, Huberdeau and Fabbri
  • James O’Brien of Pro Hockey Talk: Darren Dreger said on Monday’s TSN’s Insider Trading that since Patrick Kane hasn’t been charged with anything as of yet, so there is no “logistical” reason for him not to attend the Blackhawks training camp. Dreger added that a decision should be made real soon. According to Mark Lazerus as of Monday night, the Blackhawks hadn’t been updated on whether Kane can attend camp or not.
  • Jonas Siegel of TSN: Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf insists that he wants to remain with the team, and that he’s never asked for a trade out of Toronto.

“No, I never have and I won’t,” said Phaneuf during a sit-down interview with TSN.ca shortly before training camp.

Speculation continues around Phaneuf, Joffrey Lupul and Tyler Bozak. The rebuild in Toronto could be slow and painful, so why would Phaneuf want to be apart of it (as well as taking on so much criticism)?

“Because I like the direction that our team is going,” Phaneuf said, repeating that claim often throughout the conversation. “I’m all in. I said it this summer when I was asked about it, but I’m all in. I’m here to give everything that I have for this organization and for this team.”

  • Bob McKenzie: The Panthers have given RFA Jonathan Huberdeau a two year bridge contract offer. He is still mulling it over. There have been a couple teams who have been thinking about an offer sheet, but it remains to be seen if they would go that route. If Huberdeau doesn’t take the Panthers offer, he won’t be there for the start of training camp.
  • Andy Strickland: The Blues won’t rush Robby Fabbri. They won’t hesitate to send him down if he’s not ready. If he earns a roster spot, he’ll remain with the team.
