- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Matheson is sure the Penguins have called the Oilers about David Perron in their search for a top-six winger.
Matheson wonders if the Penguins have called UFA Ray Whitney.
Have to think Martin Brodeur is auditioning for another NHL team.
The Hurricanes may have little choice but to buy out Alex Semin this offseason, picking up $14 million over the next six years.
Blues Magnus Paajarvi has been a healthy scratch and you have to think teams are calling.
Have to think that Predators GM David Poile has talked to Craig MacTavish about some centers he may have available: Olli Jokinen, Derek Roy and Matt Cullen.
Nobody is interested in Vinny Lecavalier.
- Matt Kalman: Blues GM Doug Armstrong admitted on Sportsnet yesterday that Martin Brodeur is showcasing himself to other teams.
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Even before Artem Anisimov’s injury that will keep himout for eight to 12 weeks, an Anisimov for David Perron deal may never have happened. A Justin Schultz for Brayden Schenn trade makes for good trade speculation. Trading Jordan Eberle for a couple of pieces could just be fantasy. Maybe in a deal for Patrik Berglund?
- David Pagnotta: “Wasn’t given any indication last night from Oilers ppl that today’s media avail with MacTavish will be anything in terms of news breaking. However, those around league are expecting a shoe or two to drop very soon in Edmonton. Keep hearing conflicting info on coach, while a significant trade to shake up roster is very much expected by many. Teams have talked about RNH & Hall, but would take A LOT for either.”
- Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News: Rangers Martin St. Louis will turn 40 years old in June when his contract expires, and he’s in no rush to retire or leave New York.
“When I physically don’t feel like I can do the things I want to do, I think then will be the time,” St. Louis said of retirement. “But I don’t know when that time’s gonna be. It’s definitely not now.”
“Yeah, this is definitely the place I want to play,” St. Louis said. “There’s no doubt.”
St. Louis hasn’t spoken with the Rangers about a contract extension.
