- Pat Leonard of NY Daily News: Rangers greatest needs still remain depth on the blueline and depth up front. The price for rental defenseman is too high. GM Glen Sather will likely just hope to get more out of Dan Boyle on their third pairing and on the second power play unit. Up front, they may be interested in Daniel Winnik for a modest pick.
- Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: The Leafs are still looking to make moves and there has been buzz around Daniel Winnik, Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf.The Lightning are looking for a veteran defenseman after injuries to Radko Gudas and Matt Carle. GM Steve Yzerman isn’t a fan of giving away prospects and draft picks for rentals.The Flames are likely to move Curtis Glencross.
Sabres Chris Stewart, Torrey Mitchell and Andrej Meszaros are getting interest.
- Craig Morgan of Fox Sports Arizona: Coyotes Antoine Vermette has been on the trade block for around two months. He’s been struggling of late.
“He knows the situation he’s in — everybody knows the situation he’s in,” Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. “He’s got a family at home, wondering what his future holds. He’s got a lot on his mind.”
“It has crossed my mind for sure,” Vermette said with apparent regret in his voice. “I wish it was not the case but I don’t want to get ahead of myself.”
Other Coyotes that could be on the move include Zbynek Michalek, Martin Erat, David Moss and any other veteran that might land them some assets.
“It’s an unreal situation, a very strange one, but you’ve got to try to manage it as good as you can,” he said. “I try not to think about it; try to control what I can. I know that’s a cliche but it’s true. There’s nothing I can do about it.”
