On six players who could be traded …
- Kevin Allen of USA Today: Allen looks at six players who could be traded before the trade deadline.
1. Travis Hamonic (NYI) – the Oilers appear to be a good trade partner, but they haven’t been able to work anything out yet. The Islanders can’t afford to make a mistake on the trade.
2. Eric Staal (CAR) – Staal has said he wants to re-sign, but the Hurricanes may not want to pay the money that he might get on the open market. If the don’t reach a deal before the deadline, the Hurricanes need to trade him for prospects. Staal does have a no-trade clause though.
3. Patrick Marleau (SJ) – reports are that Marleau would accept a trade to a small number of teams. If the Sharks move him, they would want a player that could help them immediately.
4. Ryan Johansen (CBJ) – Dreger reports that Blue Jackets would listen to offers for him. Would take a big offer to get him.5. Trevor Daley (CHI) – hasn’t been a good fit in Chicago. A trade makes sense for both Daley and Blackhawks.
6. Dennis Wideman (CGY) – the Flames are deep on the blueline and could move Wideman for a forward. Wideman carries a $5.25 million cap hit.
On the Penguins …
- Josh Cooper of Yahoo! Sports: Matthew Barnaby on Sirus XM talking about a potential rift between Sidney Crosby and owner Mario Lemieux.
“But the more and more I looked into it, the more I found out, people with the same sentiments that there’s a big falling out between Mario (Lemieux) and (Sidney) Crosby. Now whether that pushes them to move him at some point? Whether he wants to move? That I don’t know, “ he said.
“I’ve heard over coaching, I’ve heard also after the (2014) playoffs when they lost out,” Barnaby said. “Maybe the personnel isn’t right?”
- Pittsburgh Penguins: Mario Lemieux on the rumored rift: “It’s absolutely not true. It’s silly.”
- Jenn Menendez: Crosby on the rumored rift: “If people are going to make stuff up it’s totally out of my control.” …. “I feel stupid even commenting on it, to be honest. It’s ridiculous.”
