  • Larry Brooks of the NY Post: There was a brief conversation between the Rangers and Coyotes about Shane Doan after the two teams made the Keith Yandle trade. It didn’t last long, but Brook wonders if it could discuss again this offseason. Doan has a year left at $5.25 million. The Rangers tried to sign him when he was a UFA in 2012.It’s a good bet that the Rangers will trade Cam Talbot by the draft. Sources saying there is “significant” interest in Talbot. The Rangers will be looking draft picks in return.

Dan Boyle won’t be retiring or requesting a trade.

Martin St. Louis won’t be back with the Rangers next year as both sides appear to be ready to move on. Brooks wonders if there is a fit in Montreal.

Devils GM Ray Shero hasn’t asked Patrik Elias about waiving his no-movement clause.

  • Bob McKenzie of TSN: Mike Reilly is training in Los Angeles and is narrowing his list down. Eight to 1o teams are interested. Teams he spoke with at the draft combine: Chicago, Columbus, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay.There has been some speculation that Sabres RFA Mikhail Grigorenko will be signing a KHL contract. The Sabres are waiting to see if there is any validity to the report. At the end of the season, the Sabres said they wanted to re-sign him, but didn’t want to give him a one-way contract. Talk has been that he would take a bigger KHL contract instead of a two-way deal with the Sabres.

Hurricanes GM Ron Francis spoke with the agent for Eric Staal and Cam Ward. It was just a preliminary discussion. Both have no-movement clauses and will be UFAs after next season.

There will be lots of trade speculation involving Phil Kessel leading up to the draft. The Leafs veteran core will get varying degrees of interest. Kessel’s limited no-trade clause is said to include eight teams – Bruins, Blackhawks, Kings, Wild, Canadiens, Rangers, Flyers and Penguins. The Leafs could expand to other teams and ask Kessel to amend his list. He submits a new list each year.
