Rumors III: Hurricanes, Senators, Devils, Oilers, Coyotes and Isles

  • Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer: Hurricanes GM Ron Francis said that some pending UFAs could be dealt for players or draft picks. Potentially available are: Andrej Sekera, Jay McClement, Jiri Tlusty, Patrick Dwyer, Tim Gleason and Brett Bellemore. Sekera has said he wants to stay, and talks have been held. Francis has also talked with Tlusty’s agent and said it is just about finding the  “right price and right term” for both Sekera and Tlusty.
  • Chris Hofley of the Ottawa Sun: Senators GM Bryan Murray suggested before the All-Star break that Chris Phillips and Chris Neil could be traded if the right deal was offered. Neil and Phillips responded yesterday.

“I haven’t really thought about (his situation) to be honest with you,” Neil said Monday after the team’s evening practice at Canadian Tire Centre. “I haven’t talked to (Murray), we’ll cross that path whenever it comes and go from there.”

“The last time I spoke pretty candidly you (media) blew it up and it was all over the place,” Phillips said. “We’ll see what happens.”

  • Tom Gulitti of the Record: Devils Jaromir Jagr said he’d be happy to stay with the team, but realizes he could be moved to a contender.

“I’ve got no idea,” Jagr said of what his future holds. “I don’t really want to think about it. I just want to play the best I can play and whatever happens happens. I just want to enjoy it every time I’m on the ice. I cannot control anything anyway.”

“If anybody wanted to trade for me, I think they would ask first. I think they would do it,” Jagr said. “If anybody wants to bring somebody in, they want to make sure that he wants to go even if you don’t have control. At least, they did it when I went to Boston. They gave me time to think about it. But, I didn’t want to leave Dallas either. I was happy there.”

“But, you never know,” he said.  “Everything happens for a reason. I just have to work hard and be ready. Whatever happens, happens.”

  • Bruce McCurdy of the Edmonton Journal: (through google translate) The Oilers are scouting Swedish defenseman Patrik Hersley, and have had talks with his agent.
  • Darren Dreger: Unless a trade comes together quickly, Colin Greening could be put on waivers as early as today.
  • Bruce Garrioch: Contract talks between the Senators and RFA Mike Hoffman may wait until the end of the season. Contract talks with Marc Methot will get serious soon.
  • Craig Morgan: Coyotes Mikkel Boedker will be a RFA at the end of the year. He could sign a one-year deal and become a UFA after next season. GM Don Maloney hopes to sign him a longer deal.
  • Daniel Friedman: With Kyle Okposo’s injury, the Islanders have more incentive now to trade for winger. Wouldn’t rule it out.
