Rumors III: Voynov, Stewart, Myers, Marincin, Avs, Granlund and Bruins

  • Elliotte Friedman of SportsNet: LA district attorneys have until December 1st to lay charges against Slava Voynov. He’s getting paid and counts against the salary cap. It is possible that the Kings could get some salary relief if the situation takes some time. The NHL can re-visit the situation.

The Bruins and Sabres have held serious talks about winger Chris Stewart, but there doesn’t appear to be a match at this time. The Sabres were looking for two young players or a prospect and pick for Stewart. The Sabres won’t trade him unless they get what they want.

Teams are thinking the asking price for Tyler Myers is so high as the Sabres may be worried that if they trade him, he’ll make them look silly for doing so.

Penguins GM Jim Rutherford has said he wants to keep Marc-Andre Fleury and they’ve had some talks. A four-year deal could make sense if they don’t want to sign him through the end of his career.

One executive on the Oilers: “They are making (fewer) trade calls than you would think.”

The Canucks were asking the Oilers for Martin Marincin in a package Cory Schneider two-years ago.

One of the reasons the Avalanche didn’t want to sign another goalie when Reto Berra and Semyon Varlamov were injured (other than they didn’t think they were that serious), was that they are at 49 contracts and didn’t want to get to 50 unless they really had too.

Michael Russo reported that Wild’s Mikael Granlund may be preferring a bridge deal as opposed to a longer term deal. They did talk about a long-term deal, but it’s likely to be two- or three-years.

Blackhawks Joel Quenneville is the highest paid coach at about $2.9 million and Mike Babcock is looking for more than that.

  • The Fourth Period: The Bruins have had interest in Chris Stewart dating back to last season. The pending UFA carries a $4.15 million and they’d have to move some salary out if they were to trade for him as they only have room for about a $3 million player.
