- TSNs Insider Trading: Sense from Wild GM Chuck Fletcher is that he doesn’t have any intention of firing Mike Yeo. The Kings are looking at Senators Marc Methot and Hurricanes Andrej Sekera.
- The Fourth Period: The Red Wings are still looking for a right-handed shooting defenseman. Oilers Jeff Petry is right-handed. They are interested in Coyotes Keith Yandle, but he’s left-handed. The Wings have the cap space and has the prospects to make a deal. They are looking for a long-term solution as opposed to a rental.
- Craig Custance of ESPN: Source saying that at the BOG meetings, owners were updated on latest Seattle expansion news. There are two or three interested parties, but the main issues is finding the right location for an arena.
“That’s the only issue,” said the BOG source. “What’s going to happen is people are going to start looking at some of the alternative areas. When everybody did their studies, the best place to build it was downtown. If you can’t make a deal down there, you have to weigh the other areas.”
- Josh Yohe: With Olli Maatta out for the year, the idea of trading Paul Martin seems nearly impossible.
- Sarah McLellan: Coyotes GM Don Maloney said that if McMillan and/or Summers clear waivers, it’s not certain that they report to the AHL. It gives them flexibility to do so for 30 days/10 games: “It’s just looking at our team, trying to give ourselves more flexibility to look at other people.”
- Joe Smith: Evgeni Nabokov likely won’t be permanently replaced, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Andrei Vasilevskiy gets other spot starts down the road.
- Tom Gulitti of The Record: The Devils will soon have to decide what they will do with some of their pending free agents: Marek Zidlicky, Jaromir Jagr, Martin Havlat, Michael Ryder and Scott Gomez.
“That’s something that has to stay within,” Lamoriello said. “But, right now we’re not thinking that.”
Zidlicky and his no-trade clause is trying not to think about the deadline.
“I’m not thinking about the trade deadline right now,” said Zidlicky, who has a no-trade clause in his contract and would have to agree to any deal involving him. “I’m trying to focus on every game and I think we’ve still got a chance. We need to win right now most of our games. It’s not going to be easy, especially on the road the last three games before the break, but we’re going to do our best.”
