Rumors IV: Blue Jackets, Senators, Rangers, Flames, Flyers and Lightning

  • Craig Custance of ESPN: The Blue Jackets will be sellers. They could move pending UFA Mark Letestu. Source saying the Blues Jackets asked and have been given James Wisniewski’s no-trade list. They are getting calls on Cam Atkinson and Artem Anisimov. GM Jarmo Kekalainen has said they are not trying to go through a rebuild. They have about $5.4 million in cap space, which converts to about $25 million in salary on Monday.
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Senators GM Bryan Murray said he’s talked to a few teams about possible trades, but doesn’t think he’ll be that busy.

“I’m not getting a lot of calls,” said Murray from his Canadian Tire Centre office. “I’ve talked to 7-or-8 teams back and forth a couple of times but that’s all so far. Whether there will be anymore than that involved in anything I don’t know but that’s about it right now.”

Colin Greening, David Legwand, Erik Condra, Milan Michalek and Chris Neil have all been mentioned as possible forward trade targets. On the blueline, they’d like to move Patrick Wiercioch and his $2.7 million. Someone could call on Chris Phillips and Eric Gryba has received some interest.

“There’s a couple of contracts, going forward, if I could do something with and if they help a team down the stretch I would do that,” said Murray. “I don’t think there’s much more than that. We are on the outside looking in and I’m certainly not going to pay a big price to get a rental player and there aren’t many out there anyway.

“If I can flip a player for a player obviously I would certainly consider that if it was a position we needed. That’s about it. I really expect it’s not going to be very busy. Maybe we’ll make a minor-league deal or two if we can help our farm team in the future.”

  • Brett Cyrgalis of the NY Post: Rangers defenseman John Moore knows his name is in the rumor mill. He could be a prime trade bait because of his low cap hit – $851,000. The Rangers would like to add some depth up front, especially up the middle. If they package Moore and a draft pick, they could get something to help out now.
  • Jim Matheson: The Flames need to find an experienced defenseman to replace the concussed Ladislav Smid and Mark Giordano.
  • Eric Duhatschek: Defenseman I would be calling on if I were the Flames: Keith Yandle, Zbynek Michalek, Kimmo Tim0nen, Luke Schenn, Marek Zidlicky, Matt Bartkowski and Andrej Meszaros.
  • Sam Carchidi: (answering questions) Think Braydon Coburn will be the next Flyer traded. They should be able to get a 2nd round pick and maybe a so-so prospect for him
  • Erik Erlendsson: If the 39-year old Kimmo Timonen who hasn’t played this season cost a 2nd and conditional 4th, hard to see the Lightning going there.
