- Starting Jan 6th and up to today: Arizona Sports Hub: Reporting that Shane Doan requested a trade in November, with tensions rising between Doan and GM Don Maloney, ownership had to step in. The Jets, Bruins, Senators and may be others are interested. The Canadiens could be a dark horse as Doan and Carey Price are second cousins. The Canucks are contenders for Doan again, but pulled out shortly after as other teams are outbidding them. A “bidding war” is underway. Pending trade is subject to his approval due to his no-movement clause. Source saying it’s down to the Jets and one other team. Source saying that Doan has given GM Don Maloney a list of five teams he’d waive his no-movement for. The Jets and Kings are on the list. Trade to the Kings is unlikely. Antoine Vermette is likely the second roster player that could be involved in a package.
- Nichols on Hockey: Pierre LeBrun on TSN 1200 on the Maple Leafs, Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf.
“And at the end of the day, if someone wants someone there’s always a way. The thing is, the Leafs would probably have to eat some money, a); b), what do you get in return? These are all things you have to gauge.
“But believe me, I’ve talked to a number of GMs in the last 48 hours who said for sure they’d take Phil Kessel. But they’re some of the GMs who feel that on their team, he’d be better-surrounded. And that he would probably feel some kind of peer pressure to conform to the way their culture is and would be better for it.”
Dreger on NBCSN: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has talked to the Coyotes about Antoine Vermette. He talked to the Blues earlier in the year about a winger. He’s talked to the Canucks. Milan Lucic is not play and won’t be as long as Chiarelli is the GM.
Dreger saying the Jets would like a top-nine forward. Teams are looking for defensemen, and the Jets will have a bunch once they all get healthy.
