BREAKING: Darren Dreger: Evander Kane will be out four to six months as he needs shoulder surgery. Will scare most teams away, but not all of them.
- Jason Brough: Jets Blake Wheeler: “We’re expected to uphold a certain standard…if you don’t like it, then there’s other places to go.”
- James Gordon: Dustin Byfuglien: “I’m sure you have rules in your household. And if the kids don’t stick to it, you’ve got to discipline them. It is what it is.”
- Ted Wyman: One question that is out there that hasn’t been answered yet is if Kane refused to play or if he was told not to?
- Darren Dreger: Should learn full extent of Kane’s injury today and whether surgery is needed.
- Gary Lawless: Biggest news of the day will be Kane’s injury status. If surgery is needed, will be hard for them to trade him. Hearing there is significant interest in Kane. Real offers may not be coming in until his injury status is clear.
- Patrick Williams: Lots of teams will be interested in Kane, but will they want to pay the price for him? If the Jets don’t like the offers, they are stuck with him.
- Craig Custance of ESPN: List of teams that would be interested in Kane: Penguins, Sabres, Canucks, Flames, Ducks, Canadiens, Bruins and Senators.
“He is young, talented and has the potential to score 40 goals,” said another GM. “ are some Tyler Seguin comparisons in terms of a young guy who ran into some issues and could hit it big somewhere else.”
One GM on if he’d be concerned about his character.
“No. I’m concerned about whether he can get the puck in the net.”
- Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: Kuzma thinks the Canucks should kick tires on Kane. They are looking for a top-six forward. One problem for them is that they only have three defensemen under contract for next year and will have to give Chris Tanev a new deal at likely over $4 million. Kane has a cap hit over $5 million and a salary over $6 million.
- Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: The Bruins and Evander Kane have been liked for awhile. The Bruins don’t have a lot of cap space, so they would have to move out salary to take on Kane’s $5.25 million cap hit. The Bruins could put together a package that included Loui Eriksson and a prospect like Ryan Spooner, Malcolm Subban and Matt Bartkowski. Haggerty thinks the Bruins may be better off to avoid the urge to bring in Kane.
- James Mirtle: Kane is a good player. A change of scenery would be good for both sides. It will be interesting to see what they can get for him.
- Kevin Paul Dupont: Think that the Bruins have the team culture to deal with someone like Kane. Other teams will be thinking the same.
- Scott King: With Kane to likely be had at a discounted rate, why not the Blackhawks?
- Nichols on Hockey: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1260 on the number of teams that would be interested in Kane. The Bruins and Penguins have been looking for a winger. May not fit due to contract status. The Canadiens, Ducks and Canucks would also be interested in him.
McKenzie on TSN 1050: Kane is a non-starter for the Maple Leafs. They have enough wingers. They need centermen. McKenzie is certain that Kane will get traded, with the x-factor being his health.Dreger on TSN 1050: The Penguins, Bruins, Ducks, Canucks and Canadiens would be interested Kane.
