- Craig Davis of the Sun Sentinel: Panthers GM Dale Tallon.
“The key for us is to stay the course. We’re building something special here and I like the direction we’re going,” Tallon said before the Panthers faced the Maple Leafs to begin a five-game trip that could determine if the team remains in the chase for its first playoff berth since 2011 and second since 2000.
“I don’t foresee us doing anything silly to jeopardize our future. It is going to have to make sense for us short term and long term. We’re not going to just band-aid it to see if we can make a run of it.”
Tallon indicated they could use a sniper (not addressing Phil Kessel specifically), but he’s not willing to move young assets just yet.
“Not yet, I don’t think. We still have some holes to fill. We still have some kids that we’re really happy and high on, still kids to sign that are in college and juniors,” Tallon said. “So all the pieces aren’t together yet. When we get to that point, then those assets will be valuable to get maybe the one guy that can put us over the top.”
Such a deal may be more likely done in the offseason opposed to the deadline.
“Some teams will be -cap challenged in the summer and we’ll see what’s available. We have plenty of room and we have some assets that might be possible trade situations,” he said, adding, “There’s no urgency to do anything. I like the situation we’re in. We have a really strong core now and now we just have to add the right pieces to it.”
- Shawn Hutcheon: Source close to the Bruins said that as of right now, it’s very unlikely they will move Dennis Seidenberg. Loui Eriksson is in play.
- DJ Bean: Regarding Nick Kypreos’s Bruins report, trading Dennis Seidenberg in the offseason makes sense, trading Loui Eriksson now doesn’t.
- David Pagnotta: Both Loui Eriksson and Dennis Seidenberg each have a full no-trade clause and would have to sign off.
- Amalie Benjamin: Bruins Brad Marchand: “I think we’ve always been looking to add instead of subtract. This year, who knows what’s going to happen.”
- Sam Carchidi: The Flyers re-signing Nick Schultz increases the likelihood of them trading Braydon Coburn and/or Nicklas Grossmann.
- The Fourth Period: Both Braydon Coburn and Nicklas Grossman have one-year left on their contracts and a limited no-trade clause. The Flyers almost traded Coburn last June to the Oilers.
