Rumors: Jets, Panthers, Preds, Leafs and Penguins
  • Ted Wyman of the Winnpeg Sun: Andrew Ladd on the thought of not holding contract extension talks during the season.

“I don’t know,” he said. “I haven’t decided yet. Whatever is going to allow me to concentrate on hockey and is best for the team is the way I’m gonna go. I’ll decide that myself.”

    Contract talks have not progressed.

“We’re still in the same spot,” he said. “For me, after this point I’m probably not going to answer any more questions about it. We don’t need that distraction in here so we’ll just leave that where it is.”

  • Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Friedman wondered if the Oilers would have been interested in Derek Roy – idea was shot down.

Initial thought was that Martin Havlat would be getting a contract from the Panthers, but something happened, and reports are that he may not be getting one. The Panthers season opener is on Saturday.
Predators 2012 draft pick Jimmy Vesey returned to school this season and has the option to free agent next summer. The Maple Leafs have recently hired his dad Jim as a scout.

Senators Craig Anderson on the rumors that involved their goaltending situation before Robin Lehner was dealt to the Sabres.

“For me it was a bit of a relief (Robin Lehner) was traded, because the certainty of my life and my family of knowing I was going to be in Ottawa…was secured.”

It seems unlikely that Zack Kassian will suit up for the Canadiens this season.

  • Dan Rosen of NHL.com: (mailbag) On if there is truth to the Penguins having interest in Dustin Byfuglien, and who might be offered up. The need is there for the Penguins, so the potential exists, but it won’t be happening anytime soon. If the Jets decide they’ll listen to offers on Byfuglien, there will be plenty of teams interested. The Jets would likely wait until after the All-Star break to see where they sit in the standings, as well as where they are with regards to contract negotiations with Byfuglien and Ladd. If Byfuglien becomes available, can see the Penguins being interested. David Perron and Beau Bennett could be two names that floated in any trade talks.
