- Hockey Night in Canada Hot Stove: Damien Cox: the Maple Leafs were talking to the Canadiens about a deal involving Joffrey Lupul and Josh Gorges. Cox also said that the Leafs and Kings had serious talks at the trade deadline last year about a deal involving Lupul, Tyler Toffoli and some other pieces. The Kings went with Marian Gaborik instead. The Devils aren’t happy with Adam Larsson. He’s been a healthy scratch twice so far. He hasn’t asked for a trade yet.
Elliotte Friedman: 16 teams scouted the Islanders and Hurricanes on Friday. It was the only game, but they may also have been checking out Eric Staal. Right now there is no thought that they will trade him, but things could change in the future. The Red Wings were interested in Tyler Myers this summer, but the Sabres asked for Anthony Mantha, which was a no go for the Wings.
- John Hoven: Kings management laughed at Cox’s comments about a Lupul-Toffoli deal last year: “Nope, never happened. He’s very misinformed”
