- Mark Zwolinski of the Toronto Star: The Maple Leafs haven’t confirmed any of the trade chatter that is out there. Unidentified teams are interested in Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel.The Stars are interested in Joffrey Lupul.
Ryan O’Reilly could be available for a defenseman (Jake Gardiner or Cody Franson) and a top-six forward (Nazem Kadri or Tyler Bozak). The Coyotes could be offering Keith Yandle to the Avalanche for O’Reilly.
The Leafs will start focusing on re-signing Franson and Mike Santorelli.
- Rany Miller of NJ.com: The Flyers could look to trade pending UFA Nick Schultz. Luke Schenn, Braydon Coburn and Nicklas Grossmann have contracts beyond this season but could be moved.
“Yeah, we’d love to get some picks,” Hextall said. “It’s a good draft. It’s a deep draft and if we get a chance and it makes sense, yeah, we’d love to get some picks.”
The Flyers would like to get younger, but they won’t blow up the team.
“There’s not going to be a fire sale here,” Hextall said. “We don’t have the so-called UFAs. If something makes sense for us to do, long-term and this year, we won’t hesitate to do it. That really hasn’t changed. Obviously, the closer you get to the (trade) deadline, the more calls will be coming in, and we’ll look at everything.”
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers goalie Viktor Fasth is a pending UFA and with the trade deadline approaching, the Oilers may look to get a draft pick for him.The Oilers could be looking for a No. 1 goalie this summer and could look to sign pending Sharks UFA Antti Niemi, or they could go the trade route and look at Hurricanes Cam Ward. Ward has one-year left at a $6.8 million cap hit.
