On the Boston Bruins …
- Luke Fox of Sportsnet: On what pending free agent Loui Eriksson might fetch the Bruins in a trade.
“Loui should bring a first-rounder, from a contender who will pick below 22nd, and a prospect,” says a source close to the Bruins organization. “He has been phenomenally consistent at producing points this season, has been a key part of the power-play, and has been nothing short of fabulous on the PK as well.”
Eriksson could be looking for a long-term deal in the high $5 million to the high $6 million range. The Bruins will need to take into consideration some of their RFAs (Torey Krug, Brett Connolly, Colin Miller and Kevan Miller) that will need re-sign after next season.
“We’ve been in discussions with Loui, and the first priority will be to get him signed,” Bruins GM Don Sweeney said on-air Thursday. “Obviously as a player entering the UFA market, he’s trying to gauge what that may be, and we’re trying to do the same. He’s been an important player for us.”
On the Ottawa Senators …
- Platinum Seat Ghosts: Bob McKenzie on Jared Cowen: “I still think the Senators deep down think that Jared Cowen is a much better defenseman than he’s showing.” … “Therefore if they are going to trade him, the market price for Cowen would be a lot greater in the eyes on the Sens than it would be in the eyes of the teams trying to acquire him especially with years left on his contract. Ottawa’s perceived value for Cowen is much greater than other teams’ perceive value for Cowen.”
On the Tampa Bay Lightning …
Platinum Seat Ghosts: Elliotte Friedman on Steven Stamkos: “I think Tampa made him an offer. I think the offer starts with an 8.” Friedman added that it was neither accepted or rejected. On the offer: “The offer wasn’t good enough to get it done, but it was good enough to get it started.”
TSN Radio Vancouver: Bob McKenzie said that the Lightning don’t have to trade Jonathan Drouin, and with them playing well, there might be less incentive to trade him. McKenzie added that “at least half a dozen” teams have made significant offers.
Mike Kelly: Both Jonathan Drouin and Victor Hedman are both represented by Octagon Hockey, but they have different agents. The Drouin situation will have no impact on future Hedman talks.
