- TSNs Insider Trading: McKenzie: Would put Antoine Vermette at the top of the Blackhawks wish list. There are at least a half dozens teams interested in Vermette. The Blackhawks are also looking at Curtis Glencross and Cam Atkinson.
LeBrun: The Capitals would like to add a top-six forward. They have interest in Erik Cole, Curtis Glencross and Joffrey Lupul.Dreger: The Capitals are looking for a winger for Alex Ovechkin’s line and have looked at Lupul. There is no guarantee that Tyler Bozak or Dion Phaneuf are traded. There is lots of interest in those three Leafs players.
LeBrun: The Bruins want a winger. Players they are interested in include: Chris Stewart, Erik Cole, Cam Atkinson and Curtis Glencross.
Dreger: The Oilers are no closer to trading Jeff Petry.
- Darren Dreger: The Maple Leafs would rather wait until the offseason to take back a bad contract or retain some salary in a Phil Kessel or Dion Phaneuf trade. There is some interest in Phaneuf as a second-pairing defenseman. Can see the Red Wings possibly circling back at the 11th hour – unlikely, but possible.
- Damien Cox: With the Maple Leafs eating Nathan Horton’s dead money, have to wonder how the Hurricanes and Kings will move the bad contracts of Alexander Semin and Mike Richards.
- Kyle Mukauskas: Senators GM Bryan Murray doesn’t think it will busy deadline for them. They have some pieces, and that if they got the right offer, he would “try to do something.”
- Kyle Bukauskas: Senators Bryan Murray leading up to the deadline: “We’re open-minded, we’re certainly open for business.”
- Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 on Curtis Glencross. Think the Flames would like Glencross to expand his trade list. He may have been convince that the Capitals could be a good idea. Wouldn’t be a surprise if the Rangers are interested. The Blues could also be interested, with Blues GM Doug Armstrong scouting the Flames past two games.
Bob McKenzie on TSN 1040 on if the Kings plan to extend Andrej Sekera: One reason the Hurricanes traded Sekera was that he was looking for a new deal in the $5.5 to $6 million a year range. The Kings have to sign Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson. Justin Williams and Jarret Stoll are UFAs. Martin Jones is a RFA. There is the cap ceiling uncertainty for next season. The Kings should be concerned that someone could offer sheet Toffoli or Pearson if the Kings are in cap crunch.
