On the Penguins …
- Hope Smoke: Darren Dreger: “if Pitt fails, is it time that you finally break up Crosby and Malkin by throwing Malkin out there. Such a crazy league now” … “if Pitt doesn’t achieve goals of being a Cup threat this year than there will be an exhasutive look at that team”
On the Flyers …
- Sam Donnellon of the Philadelphia Daily News: Donnellon notes that Flyers prospects (Shayne Gostisbehere, Samuel Morin, Travis Sanheim and Ivan Provorov) are all at least a year, if not more, away from playing together on the Flyers blueline. By the time the Flyers are ready to make a run at the Cup, Claude Giroux will be well into 30’s. Donnellon wonders if the Flyers should look at trading Giroux while he still has value.
- Randy Miller: (answer twitter questions) “I think you’d get big big value for Giroux in trade” … “I’m not trading Giroux unless getting a young possible superstar in return, Or high picks to free up money to sign 1″
- Randy Miller: (answering twitter question) “I’d consider moving Simmonds, but if you lose what little grit and leadership you have, you need some in return”
- Randy Miller of NJ.com: The Flyers are 5-8-3 on the season, 1-7-2 in their past 10. GM Ron Hextall would answer yes or no yesterday when asked if he was thinking of making a trade.
“I’m not going to be worrying about that stuff,” Flyers captain Claude Giroux said. “I’m more worried about winning games and getting back on track here. I’m going to let (Hextall) do his job and I’m going to worry about mine, cause right now it’s got to be better.”
On the Canucks …
- Ben Whyte of theScore: Canucks GM Jim Benning was on TSN 1200 radio and was asked if the Henrik and Daniel Sedin would retire as Canucks.
“Yes, that’s safe to say. They’re still real good players for us as witnessed the other night in Columbus,” said Benning, referring to their combined seven-point outburst on Tuesday against the Blue Jackets. “They’re our leaders.
“They’re players that we want our young players – as we transition young players into our organization – to rub elbows with in the dressing room and to see how hard they work in practice and to be the mentors to our young players.”
