4:20 PM:

  • Renaud Lavoie: “1) Jets Evander Kane was in a track suite because he thought the team meeting was at the team hotel and not a the arena.

    2) When he realized the meeting was at the Arena he didn’t had time to go back at his place in Vancouver to change.”

3:55 PM:

  • Chris Johnston of Sportsnet: Multiple sources saying Jets Evander Kane was not on their team bus and missed their pre-game meeting. When he was finally reached by phone an hour before the game, he said he wasn’t playing. He had a run-in with teammates that morning. He violated team policy by wearing a track suit in the morning. After a workout and stretch, Dustin Byfuglien threw the track suit into the shower to send a message. That was the last they saw of Kane until their flight home. The organization is being tight lipped. He also has some sort of injury that is being evaluated, one in which could require season-ending surgery.
  • Ted Wyman: Source saying the same thing that is in Johnston’s report.
  • Paul Friesen: NHL executive on the track suit story (before Johnston’s report) – about showing up to meeting in track suit: “A midday meeting is important… but you fine the guy.”
  • Chris Johnston: Some NHL scouts think the price for Kane has dropped and one asset could be enough to get him.
  • Darren Dreger: Many questions around Kane. Some medical issues that need to be resolved, but teams are calling and they are listening.
  • Luke Johnston of Sportsnet: The price for Kane is dropping. GM Kevin Cheveldayoff had been looking for an A-grade asset plus another piece – a prospect, roster player or draft pick.
  • Ed Tait: Kane is visiting doctors today to look at an injury that has bothered him all season. A decision on his status will be made tomorrow.
  • Sara Orlesky: According to Maurice, even if the doctor says he can play, a decision on his status hasn’t been made.
  • Ted Wyman: Kane has been walking around with a limp since returning to action in LA. He said it’s not an issue when skating.
  • Craig Custance: One GM said “of course” they’d be interested in Kane. People around the NHL think highly of him.
  • Craig Custance: Thinking of fits for Kane: a win now team like the Penguins, or teams looking at the future like the Leafs, Senators, Flames, Sabres and Oilers.
  • Craig Custance: For the Penguins to acquire Kane, it would have to be a dollar in-dollar out, which would complicate things.
  • Kevin Paul Dupont: Thinks the Bruins will show interest in Kane.
  • Paul Maurice addressed Kane situation today…

“I’ve dealt with it on my end so far as it can be dealt with,” Maurice told reporters Thursday. “I’ve got to make those decisions and live with them, but those decisions are made as coach’s decisions and I won’t be going into the details.”
