Some rumors and notes involving the Edmonton Oilers
Mark Spector: The Edmonton Oilers are have lost 24 consecutive games when Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl don’t register a point. The Oilers need to add more talent up front.
Bob Stauffer: There are several pending unrestricted free agents that might be of interest to the Edmonton Oilers.
It would be a surprise if the Oilers were willing to include any of Philip Broberg, Evan Bouchard and Kailer Yamamoto in a package for a pending UFA.
Sonny Sachdeva of Sportsnet: The Oilers need to find some additional scoring depth up front.
Looking at some players that might interest the Oilers.
Calgary Flames – Andrew Mangiapane, Mark Jankowski, and Michael Frolik.
Ottawa Senators – Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Vladislav Namestnikov.
New Jersey Devils – Nikita Gusev.
New york Rangers – Chris Kreider.
Los Angeles Kings – Tyler Toffoli
Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal: At least three teams have had serious talks with Devils GM Ray Shero about Taylor Hall – the Colorado Avalanche, Arizona Coyotes and the Edmonton Oilers. It’s probably too early to say if there is a frontrunner, but if picking one, it’s probably the Avs.
The Coyotes don’t really have the defensive prospects. The Oilers are close to the salary cap ceiling. The Avs have the cap space and the prospects.
Jonathan Willis of The Athletic: Edmonton Oilers defenseman Ethan Bear is in the last year of his entry-level deal.
If they look at a bridge-deal, comparables put him at about $3 million AAV on a two-year deal.
When looking long-term deal, the Nashville Predators signed Roman Josi‘s seven-year, $4 million per or Ryan Ellis‘ five-years, $2.5 million per out of their entry-level deals. More recently the Carolina Hurricanes signed Jaccob Slavin seven years, $5.3 million per and Brett Pesce‘ six-years at $4.03 million per.
A long-term guess could be six years at $5 million per.
