The Philadelphia Flyers have traded defenseman Kimmo Timonen to the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2015 2nd round pick and a conditional 2016 4th round pick.
Bob McKenzie: “Conditions on 2016 pick CHI gave to PHI: 1. If CHI wins two rounds and Timonen plays in 50 per cent or more of games, it’s 2016 3rd rounder. If CHI wins three rounds and Timonen plays in 50 per cent or more of games, it is a 2nd rounder in 2016. If those conditions aren’t met by CHI and Timonen, then PHI gets CHI’s 4th round pick in 2016.”
Jim Matheson: “Believe 2nd round pick Philly getting from Chi for Timonen is No. 54, compensatory pick for not signing ’10 1st rounder Kevin Hayes.”
The 39-year old Timonen was drafted 250th overall in the 10th round of the 1993 draft by the Kings.
Timonen carries a $3.5 million cap hit with a $2 million salary.
- Pierre LeBrun: “No salary retained in Flyers-Hawks deal”
- Chicago Blackhawks: “Timonen shared PHI lead with 55.6 score-adjusted SAT% in 2013-14 season (77 GP). His 989 SPSV% was on the low end among league defensemen.”
- Frank Seravalli: “Heck of a return for #Flyers there. Fulfills Timonen’s wish to play for a contender. Also removes any salary cap implication for #Flyers.”
- Chris Johnston: “Kimmo Timonen has a bonus-laden contract that sees him receive $750,000 after playing 10 games and $250,000 after 20 games”
- Mike Morreale: “I’m sure Flyers fans are sad to see Timonen go; especially when so close to returning. But GM Hextall did get good return there.”
- John Boruk: “It appears Timonen’s first game with the @NHLBlackhawks will be Monday against Carolina.”
- Mark Lazerus: “Lots of question marks around Timonen, obviously. But he’s a four-time All-Star, five-time Olympian. Not just any player. Risk/reward.”
- Adam Kimelman: “#Flyers did well in return for Timonen. Price for quality defensemen is high, even a 39 year old who hasn’t played in 10 months”
- Pierre LeBrun: “Blackhawks still aim to trade for a forward as well before the deadline”What do you think of the deal? Did the Blackhawks overpay?
- Frank Seravalli: “Blackhawks took guy who turns 40 on Mar. 18 sight unseen after hasn’t played since Apr30 and has blood disorder. Not avg player, but still.”
- David Pagnotta: “Chicago had interest in Petry, and to an extent Michalek. Timonen somewhat under the radar, but worked on it for a few days. Great addition.”
