Hockey’s Future on Andrey Pedan:
Andrey Pedan Talent Analysis: Slowed by an “upper body injury” in his first pro season, Pedan is a tall defenseman who skates well and relishes the physical side of the game. He possesses considerable technical and offensive skills but it is his combativeness that attracted the attention of scouts. Pedan can handle himself when challenged and is positionally sound in his own end.
Future: Pedan has been dealt by the New York Islanders to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Alex Mallet and a draft pick. To date, he has mostly been a heavyweight enforcer with Bridgeport. Long-term it remains to be seen how much upside there is to Pedan’s game.
Hockey’s Future on Alexandre Mallet:
Alex Mallet Talent Analysis: Passed over two years in a row for the draft, Mallet never gave up and was rewarded with a second round selection by the Canucks. The same perseverance makes an appearance on the ice, where his no-quit attitude and hard-nosed play has drawn rave reviews from everyone but his on-ice competition. Furthermore, he made the most of a larger role last season and showcased some offensive abilities previously unseen. A hardhat and lunch pail type of player who leaves it all on the ice, his compete level and dedication alone could take him far.
Future: Mallet has been dealt by the Vancouver Canucks to the New York Islanders in exchange for Andrey Pedan.
