The Arizona Coyotes have traded defenseman Brandon Gormley to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Stefan Elliott.
The 23-year old Gormley was drafted 13th overall in the first round of the 2010 draft by the Coyotes. He is on a one-year, two-way deal, and carries a $850,000 NHL salary cap hit.
The 24-year old Elliott was drafted 49th overall in the second round of the 2009 draft by the Avalanche. Elliott is an RFA.
- Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: Coyotes GM Don Maloney.”We looked at Brandon and reviewed his time with us and last year and our needs going forward, and we just thought Stefan Elliott has sort of more maybe offensive skill, puck movement, maybe a little more upside in that area,” General Manager Don Maloney said. “We spent a lot of time looking at him and looking at his game. I think this is really a good move for both players. I think Brandon can use a new start, and I do believe Stefan Elliott can use a new start. So it just made sense.”
